Job Description:

You will be responsible for building and maintaining a successful relationship with a number of our political stakeholders and their teams. You will also be assigned to one of our four policy desks (Corporate, London Underground/Rail/Elizabeth line, Streets/Policing or Surface vehicles/Air quality), where you will become a specialist in one of these areas and provide public affairs advice to the wider business.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Providing support to manage scrutiny from Government, Parliament and London Assembly including public scrutiny sessions, as appropriate
  • Effectively developing and managing successful relationships with assigned stakeholders within Government, Parliament, the London Assembly, other UK urban transport authorities and international bodies to ensure the successful day-to-day delivery of TfL’s public affairs strategy
  • Providing support across the Government Relations team to help achieve departmental objectives. Demonstrating and establishing collaborative relationships across the organisation to ensure effective achievement of TfL and Mayoral goals. Representing the Government Relations team and TfL at appropriate forums as necessary and effective communication of intelligence and insight gathered as a result
  • Ensuring senior managers and TfL colleagues more widely are well-informed about the policy and political environment by effectively engaging, monitoring and analysing developments and communicating them in a timely way to TfL senior managers and the wider business
  • Providing effective, high-quality and timely draft responses to Mayor’s Questions, stakeholder correspondence and VIP correspondence for the
  • Mayor/Deputy Mayor as appropriate. Ensuring relevant feedback and intelligence from stakeholders is fed back into the business to inform decision-making and service improvements

Job Requirements:

  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal (Essential)
  • Experience of working in an office environment providing administrative support to managerial/professional staff, preferably gained within a customer-facing role (Desirable)
  • Experience of working in a Public Affairs, Parliamentary or Government role (Essential)
  • Experience of working at a very high standard under pressure and dealing with competing demands, preferably in a communications function (Essential)
  • Good numeracy skills and the ability to analyse and interpret statistical data (Desirable)
  • Politically astute, with a sound awareness and experience with key public policy issues affecting London (Essential)
  • Excellent administrative and organisational skills, with attention to detail (Essential)
  • Comfortable with, and capable of, representing TfL in external meetings (Essential)
  • Experience of and ability to use Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint to intermediate level (Essential)
  • Negotiation and problem-solving skills (Essential)
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with people at all levels of the organisation (Essential)
  • An ability to produce clear, concise and engaging plans, letters, reports and briefs (Essential)
